I'm late with this, but 7 years natural...

I BC'ed back on 3.30.04 after a 10 month transition.   I probably didn't realize that I was transitioning until I was a few month in, and with the help of sites like Nappturality, LHCF, and Naturally Curly, I was able to learn how to properly care for my hair and figure out what my goals were.

Anyway, 7 years later, and I still don't know what to do with my hair most of the time.  It's not as long as I would like it to be nor do my styles come out as planned, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

I heard you was looking for me. Well, HAIR I go!

Yes, I'm corny.   Shoot me.  (Please don't.)

So, this post will be about my hair...or "rizos oros" as it was called today by a coworker.   I was really disappointed in the growth I retained last year...and actually, the two years before that too.  I should have reached waist-length years ago, but I'm never really that focused on reaching hair goals, and I can be quite a bitch to my hair.

Now, I've gotten to the point that I'm pretty upset about it, and I'm willing to at least try harder this year.  Since I already claimed WL regardless (lol), I want to definitely be full WL by year's end.  However, I will settle for the majority of my length being past my waist.

So how do I plan on doing this?  Protective styles.  :'(

I won't be a protective styling fool, but I plan on keeping my hair up and away more than I wear those pretty little wash n go's that I love so much.

Now, it's easy to SAY that I won't wear my hair down as much, but I ain't really too keen on styling my hair.

So far this year, I have worn french braids.  I took them down after a day or so and either bunned or worn two braids like this...

I also converted a wash n go into a puff, which I later converted into whateverthehellyouwannacallthis

All I did was take the ends of the puff and tuck them underneath the band holding my hair.  *shrugs*

My proudest style thus far has to be the set of twists I did last night.   Sunday night, I threw in some big ol twists that I didn't expect to last long.  I didn't really take the time to do them neatly, so by Tuesday, they were fuzzy and matted already.  lol   I took my time on the 2nd set...even using shea butter and whatnot.  I missed the whole SOTU because of it.

Anyway, I think they were worth the time I put into them.   What do you think?

I will try to keep them in until Sunday.

Other than tryna be Rapunzel, I've been on a personal Use It Up challenge.   I have a host of hair products that I've collected, so I'm making myself use them up before I buy new products.   This is mainly to get rid of all these moisturizers that I've accumulated and don't like much.   My conditioner and oil supply will remain stocked.  lol

Aiight...I have some hair board stalking to do.   See you all in 2012 when I post again...*snort*

Hair time!!

For some odd reason, I thought that I would try roller setting my hair this weekend.   That's what happens when you spend a whole week reading hair boards and looking at fotkis and blogs and youtube videos...you get these crazy ideas in your head.

Since my last attempt at rollersetting went horribly (i dont know if it was because my hair is much longer now than it was when I used to rollerset or if it's because I'm natural), I decided to try the rollers with the snap covers this time.

Rushed to Sally's yesterday to pick up 4 packs of rollers.

Did a mini henna treatment last night.  I figured my hair would be a little stretched and it would definitely dry faster.

Woke up today at 3p (lol) and washed the henna out and shampooed and deep conditioned.  I left the conditioner in until around 6.

I will admit that rolling my hair was pretty easy, but I don't think it had anything to do with the snap covers.

I only had to sit under the dryer for an hour.  I didn't know what to do with my new curls, so I blew them out, and flat ironed.  *shrugs*

...and now for the pics...

Let's Straighten It Out

I straightened for the third time since being natural last week.   I used a heat protectant before blowdrying and before flat ironing.

Ends didnt get super straight.  Hair was fluffy and too light as usual.   Oiling during the week did not help.

Yeah, I snap pics at work when I'm supposed to be peeing.   And what?

This bun was creating using the spin pins.  yay.

I don't know why this is so blurry, but I was almost convinced that my hair was shorter and now only BSL.

I think I might be suffering from hair anorexia.

At any rate, I'm still on track to make WL by year's end.

Chicks on hairboards will have you hype to try something.   I was like ooohh...let's do a braid out.    It'll be cute!

yeah, no.

My hair is stubborn sometimes.  There are times that it would hold any type of set.

This was one of those times.

It's okay though.   I threw that mess in a side bun and went on my way.

I'm really into this hair thing again apparently

I don't know how to say this...so I'm just going to say it...I'm a (mild) product junkie, and I'm obsessed with hair boards, albums, blogs, and videos.

WHEW!

It felt good to get that out.

Whatever.

All these other hair addicts are killing me.   I've been pretty consistent in my hair care regimen for years and I pretty much use the same types of products all the time.   I will occasionally venture out and try something new, but dammit, I damn near lost my mind earlier this week.

So I'm stalking my usual innanet spots, and I see a lot of talk about some Brazilian products...Skala...

Everybody and their momma is going on and on about how Big Lots always has the products for $1 and about how good the products are....  *sucks teeth*

Well, I had the 'dacity to listen to these chicks and jet outta work fighting this stupid Lafayette traffic in an attempt to go buy up all the Skala products at my local Big Lots....   *sips wine*

I went in that muhfugga and aint not a Skala product in there.   WHA HAPPEN?!

I was so hurt.   I was led on.   So right now, while some chick is sitting at home with some dollar mask on her hair...im sitting here still salty.  lol

It's all right.   I've found some products that I really love recently.

OH....which ones, you ask?   well, looka hurr...

The only one that I haven't tried is the Suave Damage Control leave-in...but I did buy it when I wasted my time going to Big Lots...

In other hair news...I haven't shampoo'd my hair in a week and a half.   I dont know the last time I've gone this long without shampooing...and I've actually only cowashed a few times too....The fact that I was super busy last week and almost work 70 hours and ended up with some mystery illness/sinus infection and wasnt working out greatly contributed to this feat.     While I wasn't washing my hair, I realized that I was very, very close to waist length...

I might even be there...I can't get a good grip on my hair when it's wet....

I was very excited when I took this pic many days ago...
